our origins
In 1985, an ex-Royal Marine Commando started a company to create an alternative to the British MOD's standard-issue gear.
Why? standard military-issued kit can cut corners where it can on quality in favor of volume, leading to equipment that isn't always up to par. It was (unfortunatley) common for the UK's troops to replace issued kit with aftermarket options.
Seeing a clear need for dependable gear that the average infantryman could attain, the founder got to work. Arktis would start making gear that would be far superior, comfortable, durable and functional.
In the following decades, the Arktis catalog would grow to be a household name in the Military, Special Forces, Police & EMS sectors all over Europe.

Where does a company out of the UK get a name like 'Arktis'?
In Norwegian, it translates to 'arctic'. The founder's Royal Marine winter warfare training took place in Norway, known for some of the harshest weather conditions on the planet.
'Quality of Endurance' isn't just a slogan; it truly resonates through the core of everything we do. To this day, Royal marines still undergo cold weather training in Norway and other areas of the Arctic Circle, and we meet every challenge mother nature throws at us.

Doing this requires hands-on experience — that's why It's still designed, prototyped, and modified in the UK.
In recent years, we've made a push to get ahead of our competition in terms of fit, fabric technology, and function. We will always make the timeless garments & equipment from our catalog that everyone loves, but we also want to cut into the bleeding edge of technical apparel.
Relying more on our own internally-developed proprietary fabrics, Arktis is taking things to the next level.
